Formulation and Evaluation of Hydrogel from Agarwood Leaf (Aquilaria malacensis Lamk.) Ethanol Extract with Carbopol 940 and HPMC K4M Combination

AbstractHydrogel is a topical preparation by applying it to the skin. Agarwood leaf extract is proven to containflavonoid compounds which play a role in helping the wound healing process. The combination of carbopoland HPMC intend to cover the deficiency of carbopol when used at high concentrations and to provide anacidic ph. Knowing the effect of the combination of carbopol 940 and HPMC K4M bases and the results ofthe stability evaluation of the optimal hydrogel formulation of agarwood leaf ethanol extract. The methodused is experimental with true-experimental design. The sample used is gaharu leaves taken from TanahBumbu Regency. The data were then analyzed using the ANOVA statistical LSD and Kruskal-Wallis tests.The hydrogel formulation with a combination of carbopol 940 and HPMC K4M bases had an effect on thehydrogel formulation of gaharu leaf extract on organoleptic stability, homogeneity, pH, viscosity,dispersibility and adhesion. The formula that maintains the stability of the evaluation during 28 days ofstorage at room temperature is Formulation 2 (F2). The statistical test results of pH, viscosity, spreadabilityand adhesion <0.05, p-value <0.05 showed a significant difference in the five formulas, with concentrationP1 (carbopol 940 0.75%), P2 (HPMC K4M 0.75%), for F1, F2 and F3 combinations of carbopol 940 andHPMC K4M respectively (0.25%: 0.5%), (0.375%: 0.375%) and (0.5%: 0.25 %).
