Abstract

Rosemary is a grass plant that belongs to the Lamiaceae family of the genus Rosmarinus. In addition to antioxidant activity, rosemary essential oil is also reported to have antifungal and antibacterial, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic activities. This research aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanol 50% extract of rosemary (Rosmarinus officialis L.). rosemary leaves were extracted by maceration extracting method using ethanol 50% with solvent-simplicia ratio 1: 3. Spectrophotometry Visible method with DPPH were selected to test antioxidant activity. Tests were carried out on rosemary extract with concentrations of 10 ppm, 20 ppm, 30 ppm, 40 ppm and 50 ppm with 3 replications. Meanwhile, the DPPH concentration used is 40 ppm. The IC50 of 50%’s ethanolic extract of rosemary leaves value obtained was 35.388 ppm, which shows that the 50% ethanol extract of rosemary leaves has antioxidant activity in the very strong category.
