Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type 2 is a serious and chronic disease characterized by high blood glucose levels. DM causes complications such as gangrene. The success of DM management is influenced by factors, patient compliance in taking medication, which can ultimately reduce morbidity and mortality and improve the patient's quality of life. This study aims to identify the relationship between medication adherence and the quality of life of type 2 DM patients with gangrene complications. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling and there were 95 type 2 DM patients with gangrene at the Sahabat Sehat Karanggeneng Clinic. Respondents with type 2 diabetes mellitus had high compliance with taking medication, reaching 93% and the lowest compliance with taking medication, reaching 7%. Respondents with type 2 diabetes mellitus had a moderate quality of life, namely 10.52%, good 62.01% and very good, namely 27.47%. This research uses a non-experimental cross-sectional study method. Spearman-rank test was used to analyze the data. The research instrument used the MARS-10 questionnaire for medication adherence and Whoqol-Bref for quality of life. The results of the Spearman-rank p-value test were p=0.001. There is a significant relationship between adherence to taking medication and the quality of life of type 2 DM patients with gangrene complications. Effective management of type 2 DM and prevention of gangrene complications are very important to improve compliance and maintain patient quality of life.
