Abstract

This study aimed to determine and compare the antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and total flavonoid content of Javanese ginseng leaves (Talinum paniculatum) and sidaguri leaves (Sida rhombifolia L.). The leaf samples were dried, ground, and extracted with ethanol using the maceration method. Total flavonoid content was determined using the quercetin reagent, while total phenolic content was measured using the Folin– Ciocalteu reagent. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH assay, and IC?? values were calculated. The results showed that the Javanese ginseng leaf extract exhibited higher antioxidant activity than sidaguri leaf extract, with IC?? values of 175 ppm and 500 ppm, respectively. The total flavonoid content of Javanese ginseng leaves was 11.653 mg QE/g, higher than that of sidaguri leaves (8.782 mg QE/g), as was the total phenolic content (6.029 mg GAE/g vs. 1.552 mg GAE/g). These differences in content and activity may be influenced by species variation, growing location, extraction method, solvent type, as well as sample storage and processing conditions. This study confirms that Javanese ginseng leaves have greater potential as a natural antioxidant source and may serve as a basis for the development of antioxidant-based herbal products.
