Analysis of the Effectiveness of Oral Antidiabetic Therapy on HbA1c Control in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients

Effective glycemic control is crucial for preventing chronic complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). HbA1c levels are one of the best indicators that can be used to evaluate the success of pharmacological therapy in the long term. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of oral antidiabetic use in reducing HbA1c levels in T2DM patients. This study used an observational quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test approach conducted on 100 respondents. Statistical analysis used a paired sample t-test with a significance level of 95% (? = 0.05). The data used included demographic profiles and HbA1c levels before and after oral antidiabetic therapy intervention. The results showed that the average HbA1c level before therapy was 6.85 ± 1.54%, while after therapy it became 6.40 ± 1.22%. There was a decrease in the average HbA1c by 0.45%. The results of the Paired Sample t-Test showed a p value = 0.002 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between HbA1c levels before and after therapy. In addition, the proportion of patients with poorly controlled HbA1c decreased from 15% to 5% after therapy. The conclusion of this study is that a significant decrease in HbA1c levels indicates that oral antidiabetic therapy can help achieve glycemic control targets and potentially reduce the risk of long-term diabetes complications.
